From a news capturing perspective, stories can happen anywhere, anytime, and often when it’s least expected. If all you have is your mobile phone at the time, the DJI Osmo Mobile still enables you to capture stable much-more-usable vision than you could otherwise expect to gain from a handheld phone.

From  a video-blogging perspective, it’s all most would need. The DJI OSMO MOBILE has simply been designed to capture ‘stable and fluid’ memories, to share life’s moments more easily, and more cinematically, and cost-effectively than ever before. It’s a video enhancement device that will mean difference things to different people, with almost everyone able to find an application for it.

The DJI OSMO MOBILE is a valuable addition to any roving reporters arsenal, and with an iPhone at hand, it’s ready to go with very little setup required. It’s yet another technology offshoot from the popularity and technological advances coming from the ‘drone’ market.

It turns your smartphone into a smart motion camera, making every moment you shoot look smooth, professional and ready to share. You can use it with the DJI GO app to automatically track your subject, capture stunning motion time-lapse or even stream a moment live around the globe.

NOTE: During our short trial (utilizing an iPhone 6) we encountered a couple of instances where content was not being transferred (recorded) to the phone. This issue seemed to resolve itself upon updating the iPhone to the latest IOS version. We will report back after the completed of our comprehensive review, but we’d love to hear back from any users out there who have experienced similar problems with their DJI Osmo Mobile’s and learn how they resolved the issue.

It performs well and isn’t terribly expensive, it appears well worth the price tag, and it’s a product that will actually get better as new phones are released with ‘better’ cameras. It’s an extremely useful product, one closer look staffer loved the tracking functionality which essentially allowed him to film himself moving around during a car review – negating the need in that instance for a separate camera operator. Comprehensive review coming soon.

ActiveTrack technology built into the DJI GO app allows the Osmo Mobile to automatically keep your smartphone facing you as you move. You no longer have to choose between recording a moment or taking part in it. Do both and share scenes from your life that people have never seen.

Motion time-lapse videos are an awe-inspiring way to show the passing of time. You used to need professional equipment and skills to capture them but using the Osmo Mobile and your phone, making your own is as easy as a few taps.

If you have ever walked around while shooting video with your smartphone, you will know how hard it is to keep your camera still. Osmo Mobile smooths and even cancels out the movements you make, stopping camera shake and turning every shot into a cinematic video.

Share moments using YouTube Live inside DJI GO, or stream straight to Facebook Live while using the Osmo Mobile. Every stream you shoot will be steady and smooth, just as if you have your own personal camera crew.

Take 1-second long exposures without a tripod for sharp night shots. The Osmo Mobile will keep your phone steady. Place the Osmo Mobile on its tripod and point it up at the sky to capture stunning star trails that are ready for instant sharing.

Take big, detailed landscape photos you will want to frame using only your smartphone and the Osmo Mobile. Its Panorama* function automatically captures and blends 9 separate photos together to create one stunning photo.

Control your phone camera like a professional unit, with dedicated buttons for the Shutter and Record, as well as manual ISO, Shutter, and White Balance settings. Control exposure simply by dragging your finger up or down the screen. Use the trigger for a suite of features only available on the Osmo. Long Press the trigger to isolate your movement completely for even smoother video, tap twice to re-center the camera, and triple tap to start Selfie mode.

Make the Osmo Mobile Joystick work the way you want it to. Set sensitivity, invert pan or tilt, or even set it so that the gimbal can only move in specific directions. Use Push Mode to change the direction of the gimbal directly using your hand.

Using an optimized Bluetooth connection, the Osmo Mobile is able to detect your smart device and sync up automatically and quickly if it has been paired before, so you can get shooting faster.
